Super Visa Insurance British Columbia
Super Visa Insurance in British Columbia
From Metro Vancouver to Surrey, Victoria, Kelowna, and beyond, we help BC families arrange compliant Super Visa medical insurance for visiting parents and grandparents — fast, affordable, and IRCC-ready.
Super Visa insurance across British Columbia
British Columbia has one of the largest South Asian and Filipino communities in Canada, concentrated in Surrey, Abbotsford, Richmond, and Vancouver — and one of the highest volumes of Super Visa applications in the country. We help families throughout Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, and the Okanagan get their parents’ insurance sorted quickly.
Landing at YVR or arriving via a connecting flight to Victoria or Kelowna, your parents’ Super Visa insurance needs to be active and documented before they board. We issue proof-of-insurance letters the same day, so there’s no last-minute scramble before departure.
What Super Visa insurance must include
$100,000 minimum
Coverage must be at least $100,000 CAD for health, hospitalization, and repatriation.
Full year validity
The policy must be valid for a minimum of one year from the date of entry to Canada.
Right type of coverage
Must cover healthcare, hospitalization, and repatriation specifically — general travel plans don’t always qualify.
Canadian insurer
Purchased from a Canadian company licensed and regulated to sell insurance in Canada.
What is Super Visa insurance?
BC’s Medical Services Plan (MSP) does not cover visitors, including parents and grandparents visiting on a Super Visa. Healthcare in BC — like everywhere in Canada — can be extremely expensive for anyone without provincial coverage or private insurance. Super Visa insurance is the private policy that stands in for MSP during your parents’ stay, covering emergency and hospital care.
It’s also non-negotiable for the visa itself: IRCC requires proof of a qualifying policy before approving the Super Visa application, so this step comes before travel bookings are finalized.
What is covered — and what is not
Typically covered
- Emergency hospital care and surgery
- Doctor and specialist visits
- Diagnostic tests (X-rays, lab work, imaging)
- Prescription drugs tied to a covered emergency
- Ambulance service
- Repatriation if needed
Typically excluded
- Routine checkups and elective procedures
- Pre-existing conditions not stabilized (varies by plan)
- Dental care, except accident-related emergencies
- Vision care and eyewear
- Cosmetic procedures
Have a pre-existing condition in the family? Several insurers offer stability-period options (as short as 90 days) that can still qualify your parents for coverage. Ask us before assuming they can’t be insured.
The real cost of an uninsured emergency in BC
| Situation | Cost without insurance | Cost with Super Visa insurance |
|---|---|---|
| 3-day hospital stay in Vancouver | $13,000 – $28,000 | Deductible only |
| Emergency heart procedure | $45,000+ | Deductible only |
| Ambulance transport | $600 – $2,500 | Covered |
| Medical evacuation from Vancouver Island | $15,000+ | Covered |
LICO requirement for the host in BC
As the person inviting your parents or grandparents, you must show your income meets or exceeds the federal Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) for your household size. This national threshold applies the same way to hosts in BC as anywhere else in Canada.
| Family size (including you) | Minimum necessary income (approx.) |
|---|---|
| 2 people | $32,899 |
| 3 people | $40,445 |
| 4 people | $49,106 |
| 5 people | $55,695 |
| 6 people | $62,814 |
Figures are approximate and change annually — confirm current LICO thresholds with IRCC before applying.
